My name is Stacy Maus, and I am running in the Chicago Marathon with the American Liver Foundation team on October 12th, 2014. Completing this marathon is incredibly important to me, as I lost my father abruptly to stage 4 spindle cell liver cancer in 2009. I am running the Chicago Marathon in memory of him, Gregory J. Maus, as 2014 marks 5 years since he has passed.
Liver cancer is a devastating disease, with few treatment options and even fewer answers. By running this marathon, my goal is to honor my Dad by helping raise money for advanced liver cancer treatment research and education. In addition, I am currently in the process of being matched with a current liver cancer patient. I couldn't be more excited to meet him/her and learn about their journey! My hopes of being matched with a current patient is to gain further understanding of this disease, and, more importantly, gain a lifelong friend.
I am a first time marathon runner, but have already begun rigorously training! I currently run at least 4 times/week, and actively engage in strength and cross-training on the remaining days. I work closely with a marathon trainer provided by the American Liver Foundation. With extensive research and help from my trainer, I have developed a one-year training program that will lead me to the finish line on race day!
However, ultimately it is impossible for me to successfully make an impact without the support of my family and friends! Please help make difference in combatting liver disease by providing a donation. By making a donation on my behalf, you will be helping the Foundation provide community-based education, research, support, and advocacy related to help prevent and treat liver disease. Together we can make a difference and it's as simple as helping me reach my fundraising goal.
Donating is easy! Just click the "Donate" button to get started.
A world free of liver disease! That is why I am participating in the Liver Life Challenge. The Liver Life Challenge is an endurance sport training program that helps people like me train for a race while supporting the mission of the American Liver Foundation.
Every step I take and every dollar I raise will make a diference in the lives of more than 30 million Americans living with liver disease.
