Help me to help 30 million Americans: 30 Million Americans just like me! On May 7, 2000 I was born with biliary atresia. A fairly rare condition, where the bile ducts are blocked, allowing bile to backup into the liver. On July 14, 2000 I had a surgery called the Kasai procedure where the doctors removed the bile ducts and made a conduit from my small intestine to my liver. So far I have beaten the odds; about 33% of kids born with BA need a liver transplant by the age of 2 1/2. I turn 14 this coming May, and am celebrating my Bar Mitzvah on March 29th. As my tikun olam (Mitvah Project) I am raising money and riding the 5 boro bike tour along with my mom.
Every mile I ride and every dollar I raise will make a diference in the lives of more than 30 million Americans living with liver disease.
Did you know:
- Liver cancer is one of the few primary cancers on the rise in the United States.
- Approximately 5.4 million Americans are chronically infected with hepatitis B or hepatitis C. About 65% and 75% , respectively, are unaware that they are infected.
- It is estimated that up to 25% of the U.S. population could have Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease--a condition that can lead to life-threatening damage.
By making a donation on my behalf, you will be helping the Foundation provide community-based education, research, support, and advocacy related to help prevent and treat liver disease. Together we can make a difference and it's as simple as helping me reach my fundraising goal.
