Dear family and friends,

On June 13th I plan to take on a new challenge and hope you will support me to climb Mt. Shasta.  There are several reasons that I want to summit Mt. Shasta.  Many of you may or may not be aware that I was diagnosed with hepatitis C in 1975.   Although I was asymptomatic for almost 20 years, it wasn’t until I moved to San Francisco in 1996 that I became symptomatic.  With focused attention on my health, I worked with my liver specialist and acupuncturist to help me research several therapies that were available at the time.  Much of the mono-therapy research trials were disappointing, particularly with my genotype, which did not respond to the available therapies.  It wasn’t until spring 2004 that we (my medical team of providers, Delia, and myself) decided it was best for me to begin the 48 week treatment of Pegasus Interferon and Ribavirin therapy.

My lifestyle has changed dramatically over the years thanks to my diet and exercise regimen and I can proudly say that my disease has cleared and most recently my liver cirrhosis has improved.

Even though I never really thought about climbing Mt. Shasta, I love participating in outdoor activities.  Last year I had the opportunity to take two major backpacking trips, which has inspired me to continue backpacking and think about new trails to conquer.  Climbing Mt. Shasta will be a exciting adventure and I have my liver specialist to thank for giving me information about the climb 10 years ago.  So, NOW is the time for me to experience this new challenge and I hope you will join me in helping the American Liver Foundation make a difference in the lives of the many 30 million Americans like me, living with liver disease.

By supporting me and the American Liver Foundation, your donation can help make a difference to individuals living with chronic hepitatis C.  Any donation amount is appreciate (TAX ID #362883000).  Here are few donation ideas:
