In 1999, my dad was diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis, a rare, little known about liver disease that evenually took his life that fall. As I got older, I realized that the assumption that most people have when they hear your loved one had liver disease is that they were a drunk or a drug user, that they somehow had done something to destroy their body, and thus deserved it to some extent. It was this misconception that initially drove me to promote awareness of the realities of liver disease almost a decade ago.
I am running the Chicago Marathon with the American Liver Foundation in the memory of my dad, Ed. Losing my dad continues to be the most difficult and painful thing I have ever experienced, his death is something I confront daily, but I hope that by helping to raise awareness and money for the American Liver Foundation through this marathon, I can help another person avoid the burden entirely.
Every step I take and every dollar I raise will make a diference in the lives of more than 30 million Americans living with liver disease.
By making a donation on my behalf, you will be helping the Foundation provide community-based education, research, support, and advocacy related to help prevent and treat liver disease. Together we can make a difference and it's as simple as helping me reach my fundraising goal.

Some facts about Liver Disease:
Please also consider registering to be an organ donor! There are over 120,000 people waiting for an organ in the US, 15,000 of those people are waiting for livers. One donor can save up to EIGHT lives; Kidneys and Livers can also be donated from a living donor. You can learn more and register at http://donatelife.net/
