We call Lucy our Miracle Baby!

In 2005 at age 2 months old Lucy was diagnosed with a congenital liver  disease called Biliary Atresia. Basically she was born without a biliary system that helps the bile leave the liver. She underwent a 3 hour surgery called a Kasai Procedure (this procedure is only 25 years old and until then most children did not live past the age of 2).

During the surgery doctors replaced and rebuilt her blocked bile ducts outside the liver with her small intestine to allow drainage of the bile. There are 3 outcomes to this procedure can have. The first is that it does not work all. The ducts are too damaged and a liver transplant is needed. The second is the procedure works for a while and then begins to break down. Again, a liver transplant is needed. The final and best outcome is that it works and continues to function properly.

Lucy is blessed to have the third outcome!

She had a setback in 2009 when her little liver could not pass the blood through it properly. Again Lucy underwent a surgery that banded the blood vessels in her esophagus and had to have 2 blood transfusions.

Today she is doing great, and her fragile, little body continues to stay healthy and strong!

The American Liver Foundation works to support life-saving research like the research that helped save Lucy?s life.

Every step I take and every dollar I raise will make a difference in the lives of the 30 million Americans living with liver disease. By making a donation on my behalf, you will be helping the American Liver Foundation provide community-based education and prevention programs, protect the rights of people with liver disease, and fund critical research.

By making a donation you'll take me one step closer to my goal and take all of us another stride closer to a world free of liver disease!
