This year I will be walking again in the American Liver Foundations signature fundraising event, the Liver Live Walk, and I need your help.

I have the honor again this year of being the captain for Emily's Energy, the team for my neice Emily.  Emily has a rare liver disease known as Biliary Atresia.  Emily was born with this disease and at age 6 months old had an operation known as the Kasai procedure. This procedure is a surgical treatment to allow bile drainage.  It involves exposing the area of the liver where it should drain and attaching part of the small intestine to the exposed liver surface...  A considerable number of the children, even if the Kasai procedure has been successful, eventually undergo liver transplantation within a couple of years after surgery.  Emily is now 38 years old and she has miraculously surpassed that outcome. However, she has reached a stage in her life that now that is the only form of treatment that will help her.  Emily has been placed on the list for a liver transplant now, both here in Milwaukee and in Madison.  So, she is covered throughout the State of Wisconsin.  Now we just are waiting for a match for her.

I will also be walking for two of my  dear friends, Carol Kearney and John Dubey.  Carol is waiting for a liver transplant and John has been a recipient of a liver transplant.  

Every step I take and every dollar I raise will make a difference in the lives of the 30 million Americans living with liver disease. By making a donation on my behalf for my niece and my friends, you will be helping the Foundation provide community-based education and prevention programs, protect the rights of people with liver disease and fund critical research for a cure.
