Fundraising Honor Roll

On Sunday, September 22nd, I will join hundreds of others for Liver Life Walk at the Music Concourse in San Francisco's iconic Golden Gate Park.

Two years ago I asked for your support and together we raised over $1,200 bringing much needed awareness and financial support to the needs of millions of Americans who are battling more than 100 different liver diseases.

Thanks, in part, to funds raised in Liver Life Walk events, great progress has been made recently

  • New hepatitis C treatments developed including an all oral, 12 week regime
  • Additional Bay Area liver disease awareness generated, more education programs delivered, patients supported and funds raised to advance ALF’s mission
  • Formal recommendations by the CDC that all adults born during 1945 through 1965 get tested once for hepatitis C
  • Two additional Bay Area researchers funded by ALF’s 2013 Research Awards Program focused on improving treatments and finding cures for liver disease

But we have also seen

  • An increase in chronic hepatitis B as well as the incidence of liver cancer. Those with chronic infection with the hepatitis B virus are 100 times more likely to develop liver cancer, one of three fastest growing cancers in the country that has a 5-year survival rate of less than 10% (making it the 2nd deadliest cancer).
  • A striking increase in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), buildup of extra fat in the not caused by alcohol.  NAFLD affects up to 25% of people in the United States.
  • Increase incidence of hepatitis C.  Approximately 3.2 million persons in the United States have chronic HCV infection most prevalent among those born during 1945–1965.

It is for these reasons that I ask again for your support.  My goal is to raise $1,500. To be successful, I need your support.

Thank you for your generous support.
