As a participant in the Liver Life Walk, I'm helping to move forward the fight against liver disease and I need your help!
Every step I take and every dollar I raise will make a difference in the lives of the 30 million Americans living with liver disease. By making a donation on my behalf, you will be helping the American Liver Foundation provide community-based education and prevention programs, protect the rights of people with liver disease, and fund critical research.
By making a donation you'll take me one step closer to my goal and take all of us another stride closer to a world free of liver disease!
Team Zoey is walking in memory of my niece and goddaughter Zoey Isadora Dockal. In her short time with us on Earth, Zoey's life had such a great impact on those of us who knew her and on those who never even met her. A strong spirit like that is meant to continue to impact others. My commitment to this walk is to continue the process of carrying on the legacy of Sweet Z. So help us, help others!
Zoey's Story
Zoey "Isadorable" Dockal was born June 14, 2011. In November, after several months of tummy troubles and trips to the doctor, Zoey was diagnosed with Hepatoblastoma, a rare and malignant form of liver cancer. Zoey?s only chance of survival was to be put on the donor list and have a liver transplant as soon as possible. Zoey was blessed to have a liver donor match after only 11 days on the list. While doctors believed the transplant was successful, Zoey's parents later found out that Zoey also likely had a rare disease called Mitochondrial Disease of the heart. This did not allow her heart to recover from her month-long battle with multiple surgeries, procedures, and chemo treatments. After a brave fight, Zoey passed away on December 8, 2011 just 6 days shy of her 6-month birthday.
I am personally grateful to the American Liver Foundation and the Liver Life Walk as it helped me take my first step on this difficult journey that followed the loss of my precious niece. Thanks so much for considering a gift to the Liver Life Walk 2013! I can keep focused on the positive if I know we are helping others in her memory!
