As many of you know, my father was diagnosed with Hepatitis C eight years ago. He underwent unsuccessful Interferon and Ribavirin treatments in 2006 and 2010. In late 2010, we learned that he had developed liver cancer and he was placed on the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) list. Finally, in August 2011, we got the call and my dad received his liver transplant. The surgery was so successful that he was able to leave the hospital in just 5 days! After only four months he was back at work.

Even though my dad has a new liver, he is still infected with the Hepatis C virus and it continues to attack his new liver. In March 2012, he decided to try another round of treatment known as the triple cocktail (a combination of Interferon, Ribavarin and Boceprevir) that included a newly released drug. Thus far, the treatment seems to be working. He has tested negative for Hepatitis C for seven straight tests and will be completing his treatment in May. The doctors believe that he may have finally beat Hepatitis C!!!

We are thankful to our family and friends who have continued to support us during this difficult time. We are also extremely appreciative of the wonderful family whose loved one donated their liver to my dad.

Unfortunately, my dad is not the only one who has suffered from liver disease ~ 30 million Americans are personally affected by liver disease. I am walking so that those suffering from liver disease can benefit from the critical funding for medical research, public education, patient support services, and advocacy that is accomplished by the money raised. Please support our cause by donating or joining us as we pound the pavement to change the face of liver health! Every single dollar counts, even $1.

By making a donation you'll take me one step closer to my goal and take all of us another stride closer to a world free of liver disease!

Donating is easy! Just click the "Support Lindsey!" button to get started!
