As many of you are already aware, my mother has suffered from liver disease for the last 5 years. Her condition was reasonable for the first few years, and treatable with diet and medications. But her situation really deteriorated in October of 2012, when her liver really began to fail. She had been in and out of the Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania 4 times, before the last time she was admitted, December 18, 2012. By that time, her liver was failing so significantly, she needed a transplant, or her life was going to end, It was a heart-wrenching Christmas for my family as she entered the hospital on December 18th, and the waiting for a liver began.
I am happy to report, we are one of the lucky families. My mother received a liver transplant overnight on December 27th into the 28th. As I write this, she has returned home and so far, is doing quite well after her transplant and rehabilitation. But I don't want any other family on earth to have to go through what we did. That is why I have chosen to walk in this years walk in the city where the doctors literally saved my mother's life! I want the research to be done so that we understand this organ better and how to prevent this disease from ruining another family's Christtmas, birthday, or any other important event. As a participant in the Liver Life Walk, I'm helping to move forward the fight against liver disease and I need your help!
Every step I take and every dollar I raise will make a difference in the lives of the 30 million Americans living with liver disease. By making a donation on my behalf, you will be helping the American Liver Foundation provide community-based education and prevention programs, protect the rights of people with liver disease, and fund critical research.
By making a donation you'll take me one step closer to my goal and take all of us another stride closer to a world free of liver disease!
