Thank you all for your love and support! XOXO
August 2013 was the most challenging time in our lives. Our daughter, Alexandra was diagnosed with PFIC at 2 years old. She had been itchy from 2 months old. We went to Gastroenterologists, Allergists, Immunologists, Metabolic Disorders Doctors, Neurologist, and Dermatologists. Alexandra underwent many different types of tests and a tremendous amount of bloodwork. Not one doctor could figure it out. After about a year of this, Alexandra's itching subsided. Then in March 2013 it came back with vengeance! We decided to start the process with all the doctors again. We arrived at the Dermatologist, who prescribed her Doxepin to help relieve the itchiness enough to allow her to sleep. Doxepin caused Alexandra to turn jaundice. The jaundice caused the Gastroenterologist to do two sonograms and bloodwork. Her bilirubin reached a 22. We were sent to Mount Sinai's Pediatric Liver Center and here we met Dr. Chu. Dr. Chu is a godsend. Thanks to Dr. Chu and her staff, we are happy to say that Alexandra's levels are back to normal. Although she is still itchy, her liver is functioning and that is all we can ask for.
