Welcome to Team Kata Page!
Thank you for your interest in supporting our Liver Life Walk team!
Alittle about why I started this walk:
I was given the greatest gift of all, one that can't be triumphed, a second chance at life. I was born with a rare liver disease called PFIC3 (Progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis type 3).My family had to move from Uruguay, South America to New Jersey just for me to get treatment. During that time in my home country there wasn't any treatment what so ever for liver diseases. I was 18 months when they started to notice something was wrong with me. Doctors in my country thought I had something wrong with my intestine or kidneyfailure because I started with a bad case of Colititis, so I was given medicine for my kidney, which made it worse. By the time I was 4yrs my mother was told by many Doctors that I had 6 months to live. My Mother never gave up, until one doctor told her that there was no way I will get any treatment there unless I move to the states, japan or spain. In 2 days my mom packed, bought tickets, and made an appointment with a doctor here in New Jersey. My whole life I have had medical treatment for what they thought I had was Chirrhosis. In 2004 they discovered through a test that took 6 months that I had PFIC3. On January 7th,2007 I had a liver transplant. The donor was a anonymous..the only thing I know is that he was a 63 year old man who saved 7 lives that day including myself. I'm 27 years old and I'm doing this walk to show my gradatued to the one person who I can never full express how thankful I am for that second chance in life. With the help of Team Kata we will go one step forward to fighting against Liver disease! NOW WE NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT!!!!!
