Liver Life Walk Philadelphia 2014

Lili Rays of Sunshine

Welcome to our Liver Life Walk Team Page!

Our mission is to bring awareness and donations for our cause. Lilianna was born at Shore  Medical Center in 2008 and became ill immediately. It was rather quickly discovered that she has a rare and life threatening liver disease called Biliary Atresia. At 4 weeks old Dr. Flake at CHOP performed the Kasai procedure (an intervention to help remove bile from the liver and reduce and slow cirrhosis, in turn, saving the vital organ for an extended period of time). Lilianna's Kasai was a raging success! At 5 1/2 years old, she is beating the odds!  She continues on a bi-daily medication and we maintain caution when she is ill and prevent her from getting ill. Her health and growth is overall exceptional.

We raise money for the American Liver Foundation in efforts to bring awareness to Lilianna's disease because early diagnosis and immediate intervention prevents infancy death.  When a baby is diagnosed and treated before 2 months of age, their chances of having a successful operation and reducing the immediate need for transplant are significantly improved. BA afflicts 1 in 15,000 babies annually, about 300 in the US every year. Many of these babies lose their battle but many more are warriors in the fight to survive with either a successful Kasai or successful transplant.  Thank you for your support!
