Welcome to our Liver Life Walk Team John Page!
Back in 1992 we were young parents of a beautiful 3 year old daughter and were so excited and blessed at the birth of our son John Jr. When John was 8 weeks old we were devasted to learn he had the life threatening liver disease, biliary atresia. John underwent several surgeries and procedures and spent most of the first 2 years of his life at Cohen's Children's Hospital LIJ (formerly Schneider Children's Hospital). He was listed for transplant at 9 months old at the University of Minnesota Fairview in Minneapolis. We waited a very tense 11 months to get the call and when we did we were filled with many emotions, mostly hope! Through the grace of god, the miracle of modern medicine, the many caring and talented physicians our loving family and friends and the unselfish act of a grieving family, John had a successful transplant.
Flash forward 20 years later, John is a healthy 22 year old college student, enjoying life to the fullest. We are grateful each and every day for his good health, his zest for life and the joy he has given us and all who know him.
Having told our story, we are happy to participate in this years Long Island Liver Life Walk as a team. We have walked for a few years individually and this year decided to form a team. If you'd like to join our team, we'd love to have you! It's a fun day for a wonderful cause!
