Strides for Di
Welcome to our Liver Life Walk Team Page!
Thank you for your interest in supporting our Liver Life Walk team!
In 1985 Diane Cahill-Eppoliti was diagnosed with a liver disease called Primary Biliary Cirrhosis; doctors told her then that she had about three years left to live. However, she refused to accept her death sentence...
Her astounding will to survive – her incredible love of life – enabled her to defy the odds set against her; she lived more than 25 years longer than the doctors had expected.
However, a few years ago, she became symptomatic once again, so she entered the transplant program at Yale New Haven Hospital. Her MELD score never qualified her for a transplant - she was never "sick enough" for one.
In April of 2013 she was experiencing difficulty breathing and pain in her abdomen, so she drove herself to the emergency room. What started out as a fairly common surgery turned into a battle that waged on for nearly 14 weeks.
Her liver was failing her and many complications arose as a result; her MELD score shot up. If she was going to survive, she needed a new liver. Unfortunately, she quickly became too sick to even qualify for a transplant any longer. On August 8, 2013, Diane lost the battle she fought so hard, for most of her life, to overcome.
The world lost an amazing woman, but heaven gained a mighty angel.
