One Step. One Walk. One Future...

…to a future without liver disease. This is the goal the volunteers and staff of the American Liver Foundation® work toward every day. You can join them and make a difference as a participant in the Liver Life Walk®. Your participation will keep us moving forward in the fight against one of America's fastest-growing public health concerns—liver disease.

Come JOUNCE with us at the walk!  We will be holding a JOUNCE class outside at Goddard Park.  There is a $25 fundraising minimum to participate in the class.  Check out this video to learn more!  Email rmaltz@liverfoundation.org to sign up!  Space is limited.

Our Walk Champion:

In 1985, Sandy Dickson visited Doctor Alan Epstein with stomach problems, a doctor's visit that would change her life. Later that year at a follow-up appointment with Dr. Epstein test results showed the beginning stages of cirrhosis. Sandy lived a healthy lifestyle and was sure her choices would continue to keep her healthy. In 2010, Sandy returned to Dr. Epstein as her health had become significantly worse. Medicine was prescribed but was not enough to fix the scarring of her liver that had remained untreated. After three years Sandy's condition only worsened and had progressed to the point where a transplant was her only option. On December 19, 2013 she was rushed to the hospital and surrounded by her family, the hospital priest administered last rites as her liver was shutting down. In the middle of the night a nurse delivered life changing news: a liver was found and was a perfect match. Papers were quickly signed and Sandy was rushed into surgery. She awoke three days later on Christmas. Sandy's family is so thankful for their Christmas miracle! Today Sandy is healthy, happy, and above all, thankful. She is grateful for Dr. Epstein who stood by her side from the beginning, for her family for supporting her, and to her donor, although sad that a life was lost to save another, Sandy would not be here with us today without that generosity. Sandy is a survivor and our champion!
