Juli McDonald

Reporter, WCVB Channel 5

Juli McDonald is a reporter for WCVB Channel 5's award winning NewsCenter 5 team.

An Emmy nominated journalist, McDonald came to WCVB in December 2015 from WWLP in Springfield, MA where she worked as an anchor and reporter.

McDonald discovered her passion for research, writing, and good storytelling in a communications class at Ursuline Academy in Dedham. She earned her degree in Broadcast Journalism at Emerson College, and was offered a job at NBC-affiliate KFYR in Bismarck, North Dakota just two weeks after graduating. It was an exciting time to work in the Northern Plains, as the historic oil boom began to transform the region. McDonald was nominated for an Emmy for a newscast she produced and anchored during the devastating 2011 spring flooding.

After two years in the Midwest, McDonald returned to Massachusetts in early 2012 to work as a reporter at WWLP in Springfield. She was promoted to weekend anchor within six months, and was named the weekday morning anchor shortly thereafter. During her time at 22News, McDonald reported from the White House, in Copley Square the day of the marathon bombings, and in Washington, DC and New York City during Pope Francis' visit. She was dubbed 'the Boston beat,' and frequently covered events and trials there for the western Mass. audience. In 2015 she was named a 'Woman to Watch' by Western Massachusetts Women's magazine.

A Boston native, McDonald grew up watching WCVB and some of her earliest memories include the Chronicle music on in the background at her grandparents' house.  She enjoys spending time with her family and friends in the Norwood area, and planning her upcoming wedding.
