ALL IN FOR BOSTON MARATHON APRIL 19, 2014

Run for Research Fund raising Target-$10,000

Donations to date- $2300 with 44 days to go.

FUND RAISING GOAL: $10,026.20

My motto for fund raising is: All in for Boston as last year Boston’s logo was Boston is All In- and there were for many reasons.

In addition to running, I am committed to raise money for the American Liver Foundation Run for Research Team. I have been very fortunate in the past four years to have been in the top 10 fund raisers for the Run for Research Team at the Boston Marathon. My friends and suppliers have always been willing to support my fund raising campaign for the Run for Research Live Foundation and it is my privilege to represent these friends while I run. Raising awareness and funds for Liver Research is my way to support research that can help to reduce Liver disease and spread awareness of one of the fastest growing diseases in the world due to diet, lack of exercise and transmitted disease such as AIDS. One in four people will have some form of Liver Disease.

My goal for Run for Research fundraising is $10,026.20.

Dreams, Goals and Challenges 2014:

Feb 2,201- Superbowl Sunday 5k and 10k race in Redondo Beach, California to run both events as I did last year; April 21 Boston Marathon and April 28 Big Sur Marathon-6 days apart; May 25 Ottawa Marathon; July 6th Calgary Stampede Half Marathon; Dec. 14 Honolulu Marathon, and some 5 Peaks Trail run events.

Superbowl Sunday 5k an 10k race at Redondo Beach CA

Can you imagine my surprise when I received the results for the 5k and found out that I had finished 2nd in my age group out of 46 others and 163 out of 3442 entrants. My time for the 5k was 24:45 but my watch had it at 23:45 so I think the timing was not chip time. My time for the 10k was 53:03 which is 5 minutes better than my previous year.

The next challenge is the Boston to Big Sur Marathons in April. To prepare for these two marathons, which are 6 days apart, I have been running many hard hills during my training, and doing two long runs 6 days apart (when my job allows the time and the opportunity).

The Olympics are finished for the year, and there were many incredible stories of overcome adversity to be able to compete, such as slipped discs, broken legs, and countless other injuries but it does teach us that yes we all can rise to the challenge if we  are willing to put the time- NO ONE SAID LIFE WOULD BE EASY BUT THEY DID SAY WE COULD OVERCOME.

Thank you

Roy

Thank you for supporting the Run for Research 2014 on April 21, 2014!

The Run for Research is a celebration of my commitment to a world free of liver disease. Please help me make that goal a reality! I support the American Liver Foundation® because it:

  • Advocates on behalf of 30 million Americans with liver disease on the federal, state, and local levels.
  • Provides education programs, support services, and outreach activities that reach more than 200,000 individuals annually and raise awareness on liver disease prevention and management.
  • Is the largest non-governmental supporter of liver disease research in the U.S. and since 1979, the American Liver Foundation Research Awards Program has provided more than $24 million to more than 750 qualified scientists and physicians.
