Hello Family and Friends!
I am excited to announce that I will once again be running the Boston Marathon with the American Liver Foundation's Run for Research team! Some of you may remember last year's obscenely high temperatures on race day. Despite emails from the BAA warning that only "highly trained, elite athletes" should consider running, I still completed the distance along with many of my fellow Run for Research teammates. And while it was epic because a) it was the Boston Marathon, and b) it was brutally hot, it was not the race I had trained for. So I'm back at it again this year with the hopes of finishing in under 5 hours.

Why the Run for Research team? Not only is this the most supportive and most fun charity team involved with the Boston Marathon, but the American Liver Foundation's cause has become something that I truly support. Most of us take for granted all that our livers do and how well they function. More than 30 million people are affected by liver disease. Not all liver disease is caused by excessive alcohol consumption. Liver disease can result from a variety of sources such as viruses, genetics, or reactions to drugs/chemicals. There are some simple ways to take care of your liver, which include eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly, limiting the amount of alcohol you drink, and limiting the amount of medications you take.
I have committed to raising $6000 for the American Liver Foundation. The money raised will help the American Liver Foundation carry out their mission to "facilitate, advocate and promote education, support and research for the prevention, treatment and cure of liver disease." Specifically, donations will go to educational programs to promote liver health and disease prevention, and will also fund research that will help scientists find treatments and cures for liver disease and improve the success rate for liver transplants. Many forms of liver disease are preventable, and many more can be cured if detected early. Yet tens of thousands of people in the U.S. are living with liver disease and don't even know it. Together we can make a difference and it's as simple as helping me reach my fundraising goal.
If you are in a position to help me and the ALF financially at this time, I thank you in advance. Your tax-deductible contribution will be greatly appreciated. No donation is too small. Most of all, do not take for granted if your liver still functions perfectly. Be grateful for your healthy, able body.
Thank you,
Beth
