Fundraising Honor Roll

Help me to help 30 million Americans.

A world free of liver disease! That is why I am participating in the Liver Life Challenge. The Liver Life Challenge is an endurance sport training program that helps people like me train for a race while supporting the mission of the American Liver Foundation. This April, I will be running 26.2 miles in hopes of raising awareness and funds for research for those with liver disease.

Every step I take and every dollar I raise will make a diference in the lives of more than 30 million Americans living with liver disease.

Did you know:

  • Liver cancer is one of the few primary cancers on the rise in the United States.
  • Approximately 5.4 million Americans are chronically infected with hepatitis B or hepatitis C. About 65% and 75% , respectively, are unaware that they are infected.
  • It is estimated that up to 25% of the U.S. population could have Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease--a condition that can lead to life-threatening damage.

Why am I running this race? Because I have been a competitive runner for many years but have never completed a marathon. This race will be physically demanding in terms of the training and time necessary to finish and run well. I have a unique connection to the Boston Marathon in that I have essentially lived on the course since I was a freshman in college. Although I am excited to run the marathon to accomplish a running goal, I am also running this race because I strongly believe in the American Liver Foundation's philosophy.

Why the American Liver Foundation? There are so many great charities and so many great charity teams out there, but this team is a true standout in my opinion. Beyond the 25 years of history this team has, beyond the millions of dollars raised and countless lives changed, there is the cause at the root of this effort: liver disease.

This race, and this cause, are personal for me. I am one of the 30 million Americans with a liver disease. I have two relatively rare conditions: primary sclerosing cholangitis and autoimmune hepatitis. These conditions are immune-related and along with many of the other types of liver disease, require funds for research. I think that liver disease is one of the most misunderstood and under-funded health issues, especially given how many people it affects. I have been blessed with relatively good health over the last few years and that has motivated me all the more to accomplish this running and fundraising goal.

By making a donation on my behalf, you will be helping the Foundation provide community-based education, research, support, and advocacy related to help prevent and treat liver disease. Together we can make a difference and it's as simple as helping me reach my fundraising goal.

Donating is easy! Just click the "Sponsor Me" button to get started.

Consider donating at the following levels:

$500 - "Heartbreak Hill Club" - I will put your name on my jersey and you will inspire me during the hardest part of the race.

$100 - "Copley Square Society" - I will put your name on my jersey and you will be on my mind as I finish!

$50 - "Hopkingtonians" - You'll be on my mind as I begin the race.

$26.20 -"A dollar per mile" - What a great deal!
