Help me to help 30 million Americans.

My dad was a giver of time, patience and talent. Although his generosity lives on through family and friends, he unfortunately lost a devastatingly short battle with Cholangiocarcinoma in November 2011 at age 59. He had no signs or symptoms of the disease until it was too late. Allan Butz was another victim of a slient killer for which too few treatment options exist.

Cholangiocarcinoma is a very rare bile duct cancer of the liver that occurs in approximately 2 of every 100,000 people. Risk factors are sometimes vague and causal relationship is not fully understood. Unfortunately, treatment options are extremely limited and many are not diagnosed until metastasis occurs and the cancer has spread to other vital organs.

I am running the 2013 Boston Marathon with the Run for Research Team to help change the fate of those infected with liver cancer and other potentially fatal liver diseases through my own time and talent. Alongside my sister, Pamela, we hope to reach our individual fundraising goals in memory of our dad. Please help me to reach my fundraising goal of $4,000 to benefit the American Liver Foundation. Any gift, large or small, is very much appreciated. Together, we can help to provide more research for devastating liver diseases, as well as providing education for patients and the general public regarding risk factors.

Every step I take and every dollar I raise will make a diference in the lives of more than 30 million Americans living with liver disease.

Did you know:

  • Liver cancer is one of the few primary cancers on the rise in the United States.
  • Approximately 5.4 million Americans are chronically infected with hepatitis B or hepatitis C. About 65% and 75% , respectively, are unaware that they are infected.
  • It is estimated that up to 25% of the U.S. population could have Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease--a condition that can lead to life-threatening damage.

By making a donation on my behalf, you will be helping the Foundation provide community-based education, research, support, and advocacy related to help prevent and treat liver disease. Together we can make a difference and it's as simple as helping me reach my fundraising goal.
