My Story Liver disease, in one form or another, has afflicted and severely affected numerous family, friends, and colleagues in my life so much so that I decided to take on the challenge of training for my 4th race, the 2010 Boston Marathon and 5th race, 2010 Chicago Marathon, while helping the American Liver Foundation in the fight against liver disease. The fight against liver disease is a fight that I take seriously. We've already seen the second largest December snowfall this winter in the mid-atlantic region which means I have many blistering cold runs in front of me but it will only make me stronger when I put on the Run for Research orange jersey! Like the marathon, our battle with liver disease is a race against the clock. Many forms of liver disease are preventable, and many more can be treated effectively if detected early meaning my sacrifice is all about raising awareness and inspiring others to make a financial sacrifice that will go toward conducting research. Did you know that liver cancer is one of the few cancers on the rise in the United States today? Yesterday's 5x600 Track Workout
Julia and I got back on the track yesterday morning for one of our last workouts, and it was awesome!!!
All in all, it was an 8 mile day between warmup, intervals, and warmdown.
After a little sluggish start because of the early morning hour, my legs got under me and ended up have a satisfying go on the track.
My 600m splits were as follows (I got progressively faster as one should):
2:14, 2:12, 2:04, 2:03, 1:59
Go LIVER!!!

Why Support the American Liver Foundation
- 30 million Americans - one in every 10 - are or have been affected by a liver, biliary, or gallbladder disease.
- Liver disease is the ninth leading disease related cause of death in the United States with more than 42,000 people dying each year.
- There are more than 100 types of liver disease, with hepatitis A, B, and C being the most common.
- Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, an obesity-related chronic liver disease, may affect as many as one in every four adults over the age of 18.
- Hepatitis B and C infection significantly increase the risk of liver cancer, one of the few cancers currently on the rise in the U.S.
